Ad Operations Intern

May - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The structure of LinkedIn is such that the intern's growth and learning is prioritized and nurtured from the start. I always felt fully supported and learned an incredible amount from people I felt genuinely cared about my wellbeing.

What I wish was different

The internship was very autonomous, and I wish that it had been less open-ended. That being said, even though it added a layer of difficulty, I was able to complete my projects, and am a better person because of it.

Advice

Always reach out to people, you never know who'll help you!

Global Sales Organization Intern

June - September 2018 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I was given so much responsibility as an intern at LinkedIn. I was put on a client-facing team and was the Sales Development Representative against their accounts. I was always pushed to be learning more and becoming better. The people at LinkedIn are absolutely remarkable -- so many fascinating and unique individuals.

What I wish was different

I know it sounds cliche, but nothing. I absolutely loved it.

Advice

Wherever you intern, take advantage of it. By that I mean pull the "intern card" and meet with as many people (preferably higher-ups too) to learn as much as possible. People love to pay it back and help you out.

Art Direction/Design Intern

June - September 2018 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

My intern partner and I were given so much responsibility, and spearheaded many far-reaching projects. We directly worked with everyone in the Creative Studio as well as our business partners, and had the opportunity to present to LinkedIn leadership. I gained so many skills, and was so excited to see my designs used as well. I learned so much about working in-house and really diving into a brand, but with a fast pace and extremely talented, experienced people working with me.

What I wish was different

Because the Creative Studio is so new, there isn't room to hire any entry-level people. Also, since everyone is senior-level, we pretty much did the work of junior art directors and junior copywriters and were quite overworked at one point, but sometimes were still treated like "just interns." We definitely had to prove ourselves in order to be given more responsibility.

Advice

I would say that confidence in yourself is really important, and putting yourself out there. Having new ideas to offer, even if they weren't asked for, can go a long way. Doing the bare minimum won't be enough to stand out. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help - the culture at LinkedIn is so positive and everyone really wants to see you succeed, you just have to ask.
