Summer 2026 Consulting Internship - Business Management and Information Technology

Overview

BerryDunn is seeking a Consulting Intern to join our State Government Practice Group's Finance and Administration (F&A) Practice. Our goal is to assist developing professionals explore and begin their careers, with the possibility of transitioning to a full-time role here at BerryDunn upon graduation. We are therefore looking for candidates who are very interested in the consulting industry and working for BerryDunn as a government consultant.

Our state team focuses on serving the following types of state government agencies:

  • Administration, Finance, and Human Resources
  • Workers Compensation and Unemployment Insurance
  • Enterprise Information Technology
  • Revenue and Tax
  • Pension/Retirement
  • Enterprise Project Management Offices (PMOs)
  • Enterprise Information Technology

Our F&A Practice provides these clients with the following services:

  • Project oversight and management
  • Organizational development and change management
  • Technical advisory
  • Data governance and management

As an Intern with the F&A Practice, you will be exposed to how state government consulting engagements work and how the business functions behind the scenes in order to provide high-quality services to our clients. You will be assigned to client projects, performing tasks both offline and in client-facing settings, and contribute to key internal projects and initiatives to help continuously improve our organization and its practices. As such, you will be treated as an entry-level consultant during your internship and be expected to satisfactorily operate within a fast-paced business environment, while receiving extensive coaching and guidance from the staff you are assigned to work with. Our preference to enrich the internship experience is to base this intern in our Portland, Maine office.

We have internship openings with our State Government Practice Group for:

  • Summer session running from June 2, 2026, through August 7, 2026.

You Will

  • Develop a general understanding of the consulting process in the government sector. 
  • Assist in performing consulting engagements of all sizes. This may involve conducting research, assisting with detailed and technical aspects of the engagement, documenting the engagement and assisting with engagement reporting.
  • Follow appropriate diagnostic, data collection, fact finding, and data analysis practices.
  • Assist with project management tasks such as tracking and reporting project progress, maintaining project document repository, and reviewing deliverables for quality assurance.
  • Participate in staff/team meetings and training and work effectively as a team player on multiple client projects.
  • Provide ad hoc assessments and briefings in response to client requests.
  • Develop concise summaries, reports, and presentations of complex data for client leadership.

You Have

  • Currently enrolled as a student in a BA/BS/MS Degree in Political Science, Economics, Communications, Business, Engineering, Mathematics, Accounting/Finance, Data Analytics, Information Systems, and/or Computer Science.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in relationship building, including excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Relevant work experience in government or public administration field is a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.

 

Compensation Details

The hourly rate for this role is $30 per hour. This rate range represents BerryDunn’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting. If an applicant possesses experience, education, or other qualifications more than the minimum requirements for this posting, that applicant is encouraged to apply, and a final rate may then be based on those additional qualifications; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The hourly rate for the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, years of experience, depth of experience, seniority, merit, education, training, amount of travel, and other relevant business considerations.
