Position Summary:   

 

The University at Buffalo’s Network and Communication Services team is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Communication Engineer to join our team in supporting and advancing the university’s communications infrastructure.

 

In this role, you will:

 

Manage the University communications systems (currently Cisco Call Manager, Cisco Webex calling, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom). This will include troubleshooting communication issues

Lead communications systems projects, including collaborating on architecture decisions for the future telephone systems, and developing scripts and processes to automate system management

Lead and coordinate requirements gathering and analysis for the phone system: measure usage of the phone system and use that to inform systems development

Work with customers to understand their needs and developing solutions to their problems from offerings within our services portfolio

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of experience in voice and data systems OR master’s degree with 1 year of experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience with creating python scripts to interact with APIs
  • Experience with creating PowerShell scripts
  • This position requires local travel between each university campus and off-campus. Must have the ability to demonstrate that the candidate can meet the transportation needs of this position.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a fulltime basis without visa sponsorship.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree preferably in Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Experience in:
  • Using Cisco products: Unified Communications Manager (UCM), Webex Cloud, Unity, Contact Center eXpress, Revolution (Syn-Apps) paging, and PhoneView
  • Supporting the Microsoft Teams Telephony
  • IP Telephony, writing RFPs, bid specifications, would be considered valuable skills to possess
  • Centrex for life-safety analog lines
  • Project management skills and experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment are desirable

 

Physical Demands

  • The candidate must be able to climb ladders, use standard telecommunications tools/equipment, and differentiate colors used for standard wire coding.

 

  • Occasional physical activity may require handling objects that can weigh up to 50lbs.

Salary Range:

$90,000 - $105,000
