Starting Salary Range: $22.00 - $22.00
The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL), has full time openings available for the 2026 Summer Internship Program.
A BWL internship is an opportunity offered to students interested in gaining work experience in a job specific industry. Our 2026 internship dates are as follows:
- Start Date - May 11, 2026, Onsite Orientation
- End Date - August 07, 2026, Internship Concludes
AREAS OF OPPORTUNITY MAY INCLUDE:
1. Information Technology; (I.T.) / Operations Technology (OT)
2. Engineering - various disciplines (electrical, mechanical, industrial, civil, environmental, chemical, water...) These interns may be in departments such as:
- Project Engineering
- Asset Management
- Work Management
- Electric Systems Integrity
- Water Distribution
- Water Production
- Plant Engineering
3. Environmental / Carbon Neutrality & Energy Planning.
4. Human Resources
5. Accounting /Internal Audit
6. Customer Operations
7. Business / Marketing
8. GIS
9. Legal Services

Students interested in participating in an internship opportunity must complete the following selection activities:
- Submit a resume and student transcripts.
- Complete a BWL Employment Application.
- Complete an interview, if chosen.
- Please list the departments of interest on the bottom of your application in the "enter your comment" section. Multiple options may be submitted.
Requirements:
- Must be a college student currently enrolled in courses within their area of study.
- Must be classified as a junior or senior status during the summer of 2026.
- Overall GPA of at least a 3.0.
- Pass a drug test and background check for employment.
- Dependable transportation and the ability to get to work on time.
- Dependable and hard working.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:
- Employees are required to follow the BWL Safety Manual and wear required personal protective equipment, adhere to BWL safety rules and regulations, attend all training for safety awareness or skills improvement as required by supervisor, BWL, or governmental agency such as MIOSHA. Normal office and occasional field work.
- Field conditions may include heat, cold, dust, and/or noise.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers.
- Must successfully complete a background check, a substance screening and a physical (if applicable).
