This position serves as a Senior Accessibility Analyst performing complex professional and advisory functions in the Accessible Technology Compliance unit within the Bureau of Technology Management supporting the Department of Human Services (DHS). 

In this role you will serve as lead technical analyst working with lower-level staff and users to assess requirements and identify products to meet requirements that are appropriate to agency and state data processing environments, technical direction and in compliance with IITAA specifications. 

In addition, you will develop position papers relative to products researched and develop and/or provide specialized training on IITAA compliant products evaluated and selected for implementation. As a senior analyst, you will establish and maintain a close working relationship with users, members, and management of the Department of Information Technology (DoIT), as well as management throughout the Agencies.

Essential Functions

  • Under administrative direction, serves as a Senior Accessibility Analyst for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) supporting the Department of Human Services (DHS), performing complex professional and advisory functions in the Accessible Technology Compliance Unit within the Bureau of Technology Management.
  • Serves as lead technical analyst working with lower-level staff and users to assess requirements and identify products to meet requirements appropriate to agency and state data processing environments, technical direction, and in compliance with IITAA specifications.
  • Develops position papers relative to products researched.
  • Develops and/or provides specialized training on IITAA compliant products evaluated and selected for implementation.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology field by continuing education through meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields.
  • Requires three (3) years of professional experience in application services or a related Information Technology field.  

Preferred Qualifications (In order of Significance)

  • Three (3) years of professional experience performing accessibility testing and quality assurance of information systems and software using Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act (IITAA), Section 508 or similar accessibility standards, including the use of assistive technologies and accessibility evaluation tools.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience performing complex research and analysis of hardware and software products to assess accessibility compliance and recommend solutions that meet agency and statewide IT accessibility standards.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience preparing and presenting technical documentation including position papers, product evaluations, procurement recommendations, and demonstration materials for stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience providing technical support and guidance to internal teams and end users on the implementation and use of accessible technology solutions, including training delivery and user support. 
  • Three (3) years of professional experience analyzing and diagnosing system issues related to accessibility or compatibility and coordinating resolution efforts across technical teams and vendors to ensure compliance and usability.  
  • Developed verbal and written communication skills to present complex technical information clearly and effectively in both verbal and written formats to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders, agency leadership, and vendor representatives.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, agency partners, and external vendors to support collaborative problem-solving and continuous improvement in accessibility practices.

Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to travel in performance of duties with overnight stays.
  • Requires the ability to serve in an on-call capacity.
