University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) at Sacramento State is seeking a Application Developer (AB 2370) for Office of Water Programs (OWP). OWP (www.owp.csus.edu) is an internationally recognized provider of training materials in a variety of media, as well as a source of engineering and scientific research that fills the niche between academia and consulting engineering. Our team of nearly 50 professionals, trained in a variety of academic disciplines, collaborates to produce high-caliber work that furthers our mission to provide cost-effective solutions for protecting and enhancing water resources, public health, and the environment through training, scientific research, and public education. OWP is a self-supported academic center within and located at Sacramento State.

 

RATE OF PAY: $5,294 - $7,941 per month

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

This is a full-time, temporary up to 1 year, non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay), benefited position that is covered under the California Public Employees’ Retirement System. Continued employment in this position is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises and the employee, and either University Enterprises or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

 

The selected candidate must furnish proof of eligibility to work in the United States. University Enterprises, Inc. is not a sponsoring agency (i.e. H-1B Visa).

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
  2. Proficiency in web application development.
  3. Proficiency with HTML, PHP, JavaScript, and CSS.
  4. Proficiency with relational database concepts (SQL Server preferred).
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, interpersonal skills, and skills to effectively function as part of a team.
  6. Ability to work well as part of a small development team.
  7. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  8. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  9. Ability to prioritize assignments and see projects through to completion.
  10. Must pass a background check, which may include fingerprinting. Must continue to meet the established standards.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
  2. Experience working with research environmental scientists.
  3. Experience working in state grant funded web application development projects.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in an office environment; continuous contact with staff, campus community, the public, and government agencies.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position collaborates with the Information Technology (IT) and Research departments on various specialized application development projects. Additionally, it provides support for the maintenance of the OWP website and internal data processing applications. The position reports directly to and receives general supervision from the Associate Director of Research or their designee.

 

The specific duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  1. Collaborates with applications developers and research engineers in the implementation of new software, often for web-based applications.
  2. Develops Full-Stack PHP web applications using OOP PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, and Foundation CSS.
  3. Designs and administers advanced SQL Server databases using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 20.
  4. Develops T-SQL reports and PHP web interfaces to support environmental science research.
  5. Develops and maintains a Laravel PHP REST API Endpoint for integration with internal web applications.
  6. Maintains and troubleshoots existing Full-Stack PHP applications and SQL Server databases.
  7. May provide work direction to undergraduate students.
  8. Undertakes additional programming projects as directed.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.
