POSITION DESCRIPTION
Dr. Peter James in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the UC Davis School of Medicine / UC Davis Health invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar to join an interdisciplinary research team with a new RF1 (https://reporter.nih.gov/search/ujC05EC8M0u-Hs2FLpET3A/project-details/11229700) focused on environmental exposures, spatial data, smartphone applications, and brain health outcomes, including Alzheimer’s disease, cognitive decline, dementia, and neuropathologies, within large, long-running nationwide prospective cohorts (the Nurses’ Health Study II and the Rush University Cohorts). The Postdoctoral Scholar will contribute to the design, data collection, data analysis, manuscript writing, and dissemination of research examining how environmental, behavioral, and psychosocial factors influence cognitive function, cognitive decline, Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD), and neuropathologies. Responsibilities include advanced spatial analyses, epidemiologic analyses, manuscript preparation, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. There will be vast opportunities for mentorship, with collaborations from faculty at UC Davis, Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, Harvard Medical School, Rush University Medical Center, Washington University in St Louis, and Boston University School of Public Health.
This is a non-remote, on-site position located in Davis or Sacramento, California, and offers the opportunity to work closely with epidemiologists, neuropsychologists, biostatisticians, environmental scientists, and clinician-researchers on an NIH-funded study with strong public-health relevance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Basic
- Ph.D. or equivalent degree in environmental epidemiology or a closely related field
- Demonstrated experience working with spatial data (e.g., GIS-based exposures, remote sensing, geocoded datasets, or global positioning systems (GPS) data)
- Research experience related to Alzheimer’s disease, cognitive decline, or dementia
- Ability to work on-site at UC Davis Health in Sacramento or Davis (non-remote position)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including experience presenting research at conferences or seminars
- Strong data management skills and demonstrated attention to detail
- Proficiency in SAS, R, and/or Python
Preferred
- Experience working with smartphone or mobile health data (e.g., GPS, accelerometry, Ecological Momentary Assessment)
- Data science expertise
- Research experience related to physical activity
- Research experience related to psychological well-being or mental health
