ABOUT THE Division
General description
Join the Information Technology division as a Client Operations Summer Intern! Performs entry-level computer systems support work. Work involves providing customer support for agency information technology systems and operating automated office equipment in a stand-alone, network, or mainframe environment. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The intern may rotate between Help Desk, Equipment Allocations, Desktop Support, and Operations. Apply today and help the Comptroller’s office keep the Texas economy strong.
Work Hours
Work hours are between 6:00AM to 6:00PM, 40-hour week, Monday – Friday. Occasionally work overtime and/or additional hours. Hours may change based on business need. Perform on-call duty on a rotational basis and occasionally work overtime and/or additional hours based on business peaks. Employee must be capable of being onsite within one (1) hour of being called. Hours may change based on business need.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled as a Senior at an accredited four-year college or university, or a recent graduate within one year with a major coursework in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems or IT related field.
• Professional or academic experience in one of the following:
o Customer support and/or desktop workstation support.
o Imaging/deploying desktop workstation with Windows operating systems.
o Deploying software packages to workstations
o Hardware/Software updates to workstations or computer related devices.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working in a Windows environment.
• Experience with a software program to package and distribute software to a Windows environment.
• Practical experience working with Hardware in a Windows environment.
In this role you will:
• Assists in providing coordination and planning for the installation, update and removal of hardware, software and equipment.
• Completes appropriate paperwork for inventory tracking of IT hardware.
• Provides technical assistance and support for software and hardware problems and for information sharing with Divisions and other Agencies as part of the Technical Support Team.
• Assists in determining operational, technical and support requirements for the location, installation, operation and maintenance of IT Equipment and systems.
• Assists in maintaining Hardware, Software and telecom products for the agency.
• Coordinates with other IT Teams regarding status of assigned service call/tickets and informs the team supervisor when unable to resolve a customer’s complaint or request and will escalate the issue to the appropriate team for resolution.
• Utilizes ServiceNow to formulate descriptions of problems and provide detailed/workable solutions for technical solutions.
• Installs and updates existing customer approved hardware and software.
• Answers customer calls.
• Coordinates, plans, and schedules the installation or training for new and revised hardware, software and mainframe jobs.
• Ships and receives IT equipment.
• Assists in researching and integrating Telecom and Desktop Hardware into existing environments.
• Assists with Printing large jobs in a print pool environment.
• Assist with reviewing mainframe jobs as they come through the master console.
• Observes evaluation and recommends actions on testing and certification of software and hardware upgrades.
• Observes the management and administration desktop hardware and software including planning and coordinating.
• May assist with upgrades and maintenance activities.
• Tests new or existing procedures for Help Desk, Operations, deployment of hardware, software and applications using utility programs to effectively meet increasing technology needs.
• Recommends updates of documentation, statistics, flow charts, Power Point presentations and logistics plans for network and hardware needs.
• Provides and reviews process and procedures for knowledge base, workstation images, telecom and inventory control system.
• Observes evaluation of software and hardware to support agency information technology goals and objectives and provides suggestions.
• Assists with evaluation and offer solutions for the tools used for telecom, including but not limited to web conferencing, VOIP, and teleconferencing.
• Calls oncall personnel for job abends and relaying information.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
