PhD Research Opportunity
Title: Funded PhD Research Opportunity (Quantum Technology & Space Communications)
Organization: Florida International University (FIU) – Electrical & Computer Engineering
Location: Miami, FL (primarily on-site; discuss flexibility if needed)
Start: Flexible (rolling)
Opportunity
Prof. Aleksandr (Alex) Krasnok’s (akrasnok@fiu.edu) research group in FIU ECE is recruiting a strong, motivated student for a funded PhD/research opportunity at the intersection of quantum technology, photonics/metamaterials, and space communications/networking.
Research directions
Projects may involve one or more of the following: electromagnetic/photonic design and modeling, metasurfaces/metamaterials, quantum sensing concepts and hardware, RF/microwave systems, and networking/communications topics relevant to space and delay-tolerant systems.
What you will do
You will develop and validate models and/or experiments, document results, and contribute to papers and proposals. Exact scope will match your background and the funded project.
Who should apply
You should have strong fundamentals in ECE, physics, or CS, plus evidence you can execute (coursework, projects, research, publications, or substantial technical work). Programming experience (e.g., Python/Matlab) is helpful. Prior experience with EM simulation, RF/optics labs, or systems work is a plus but not required.
Citizenship / eligibility note
One near-term target is the LQC National Quantum Fellowship (U.S. citizens only). Non-U.S. citizens are encouraged to inquire about other funded projects in the group.
How to express interest
Please submit:
– CV (or resume)
– Unofficial transcript
– A short note (3–5 sentences) describing your interests/background, citizenship status, and availability for a brief call.
