Accounting Intern
Job Title: Accounting Intern
Company: Sharpen Location: Murray UT/Hybrid Duration: 3 to 5 months Schedule: Full-time (preferred) or Part-time
About Us
SharpenCX is a cloud-native Contact Center as a Service (CCaaS) provider dedicated to transforming customer service through an "agent-first" philosophy. We believe that empowering support teams with intuitive, efficient tools is the key to delivering exceptional customer experiences. Our modular, omnichannel platform seamlessly blends human-centric design with practical AI, allowing mid-market businesses to unify voice, SMS, and web chat while equipping their agents with smart automations and real-time insights. At Sharpen, we are driven by innovation, security, and a commitment to helping our clients turn everyday interactions into lasting customer loyalty.
The Role
We are looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented Accounting Intern to join our fast-paced Finance team. Unlike traditional internships that focus solely on data entry, this role offers hands-on experience with high-level corporate accounting initiatives. You will play a crucial role in supporting our team through major tech-stack upgrades, audit preparation, and the day-to-day financial operations of a growing business.
This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate looking to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world accounting systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Billing Systems Implementation: Assist the finance team with the rollout of our new billing system. Tasks may include data migration, user acceptance testing (UAT), and validating data to ensure accurate invoicing and revenue recognition.
- ERP Improvements: Support the optimization of our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. You will help identify workflow bottlenecks, clean up master data, and test automated processes to improve the overall efficiency of the accounting department.
- Financial Statement Audit Support: Act as a key liaison during our financial statement audit. You will help prepare supporting schedules, pull transaction documentation, and fulfill PBC (Provided by Client) requests for our external auditors.
- Routine Accounting Tasks: Gain fundamental corporate accounting experience by assisting with the month-end close process, preparing journal entries, completing bank and account reconciliations, and providing general Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) support.
What We’re Looking For
- Education: Currently pursuing (or recently completed) a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Knowledge: A solid foundational understanding of US GAAP and standard financial statements.
- Tech-Savvy: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, SUMIFS). A strong interest in financial systems, ERPs, and automation is highly desired.
- Soft Skills: High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. You aren't afraid to ask questions and take initiative.
Internship Logistics
- Duration: This is a temporary position lasting 3 to 5 months.
- Hours: We strongly prefer candidates who can commit to a full-time schedule (30-40 hours per week). However, we are open to flexible part-time arrangements (15-25 hours per week) to accommodate class schedules for the right candidate.
- Compensation: $18 - $20 / hour
What You’ll Gain
- Real-World Systems Experience: Exposure to ERP and billing system implementations is highly sought after in the job market.
- Mentorship: Work directly with experienced CPAs and corporate controllers who are invested in your professional growth.
- Resume Building: Direct experience working with external auditors and modern financial tech stacks.
