As a Data Enablement Intern within the Data, Innovation, and Governance (DIG) team, you will support initiatives focused on improving the quality, clarity, and consistency of enterprise data. This role is well suited for detail‑oriented team member with curiosity in how data, analytics, and AI tools are used together to support business understanding and decision‑making.
The intern will work closely with DIG team members and business partners to help identify data issues, analyze patterns and inconsistencies, and document findings. They will gain hands‑on exposure to how modern data teams responsibly use AI tools to support data analysis and management activities.
Throughout the summer, the intern will build a foundational understanding of how enterprise data, analytics, and AI capabilities support decision‑making in an institutional investment environment, while developing strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills. Our Internship Program runs May 26, 2026 thru July 24, 2026.
What You’ll Learn:
- How data is created, transformed, and consumed across different business teams within an institutional investment organization
- Why data quality, consistency, and clear definitions are critical to reliable reporting, analytics, and informed decision‑making
- How modern data teams use analytics and AI‑assisted tools to support data analysis, identify issues, and improve documentation
- How to apply judgment, validation, and critical thinking when working with data and AI‑assisted outputs
- How to work with business stakeholders to understand data needs and where gaps, ambiguity, or quality challenges exist
- How to document data definitions, business rules, and observations clearly and consistently for both technical and non‑technical audiences
- How to communicate insights and findings effectively through written summaries and presentations
- How data governance practices support scalable analytics, responsible use of AI, and long‑term trust in enterprise data
- How agile teams collaborate, prioritize work, and adapt as data and technology capabilities evolve
Broad Responsibilities Include:
- Support data quality initiatives by helping identify, document, and track data issues, leveraging analytical and AI‑assisted tools to surface patterns, anomalies, or recurring themes
- Assist in analyzing datasets and stakeholder feedback to help identify root causes of data inconsistencies and opportunities for process improvement
- Use AI‑enabled tools to help draft, organize, and refine data definitions, business rules, and documentation, with an emphasis on accuracy, clarity, and transparency
- Work with business users to understand how data is used in practice and where ambiguity, gaps, or quality concerns exist
- Synthesize findings into clear written summaries and presentations for DIG team members and business stakeholders, including reviewing and validating AI‑assisted outputs
- Participate in DIG team standups and planning discussions to gain exposure to agile delivery, prioritization, and modern data workflows
- Participate in UTIMCO’s Data Council sessions to learn how enterprise data governance programs guide data quality standards and responsible use of analytics and AI
- Collaborate with team members across functions and geographies, including offshore resources, while learning effective communication and documentation practices in a distributed environment
Requirements:
- Rising senior currently pursuing an undergraduate degree (or equivalent credit load) in information systems, finance, accounting, business analytics, or a related field
- Strong curiosity about how organizations use data to support decision making
- Comfort utilizing AI tools to increase efficiency, with an understanding of the importance of validation and human judgement
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact comfortably with a variety of stakeholders
- Attention to detail and ability to organize and synthesize information
- Ability to ask thoughtful questions and learn in a collaborative environment
- A collaborative, proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and take ownership of work
- Commitment to professionalism, integrity, and transparency in a team‑oriented environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to databases, queries, or analytical tools (e.g., SQL, Access, Python, R)
- Familiarity with data, reporting, or visualization tools (such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar)
