Payroll Specialist (Hybrid role)

We are seeking a service and detail oriented Payroll Specialist to join our Shared Services Payroll Team that processes at least one organization’s payroll every week (Champlain College, Middlebury College, Saint Michael’s College, and GMHEC).
We are looking for a whole-systems thinker who blends technical proficiency in payroll systems and compliance with strong communication skills. In this role you will resolve discrepancies and manage tasks like timekeeping and tax deductions with a helpful, positive attitude or “customer-first” approach.
The ideal candidate doesn't just process checks—they serve as a dedicated partner to our College HR and Finance leads as well as Faculty and Staff each pay period. We strive to ensure the employee experience includes seamless, transparent, and accurate support. This role is for an individual who finds satisfaction in accurate reconciliation of data and possesses the emotional intelligence to navigate sensitive employee inquiries with grace and clarity.
What you’ll be doing:
- Payroll Processing & Reporting: Execute end-to-end payroll processes using enterprise-level software (Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications).
- Customer Support: Act as a dedicated resource for employees, resolving complex payroll issues with a focus on empathy and clear communication. Our team utilizes cloud-based service management and ticket platform TeamDynamix (TDX) for tracking, prioritizing, and resolving requests and inquiries.

What you bring:
- Payroll Experience: 2+ years of experience with end-to-end payroll in a system like Oracle.
- Strong Knowledge of Software: technical proficiency and agility with ability to jump from system to system as well as deep dive into how software works. Specifically, must have strong skills with payroll software (Oracle, ADP, etc.), Microsoft Office (in particular advanced proficiency in Excel utilizing pivot tables, data validation, lookups, etc.), as well as the Google Suite of products. Experience with Power BI and TDX or similar products is a plus.
- Attention to Detail and Organization Skills: Ability to spot errors and manage multiple deadlines as we process payrolls for four separate organizations.
- Strong Communication Skills: able to handle confidential data and stressful deadlines with composure, empathy, and collaborative communication.

- Hybrid Work Structure: Ability to work 2+ days per week out of our Burlington, VT office along with productive workspace for your work from home scheduled days.
- Compensation Range: This position is targeted at $56,000 - $60,000 annually commensurate with experience.
