Business Webmaster & IT (onsite)

We are seeking qualified business and computer science students or college graduates who are highly motivated and interested in pursuing a career as a biotech webmaster & IT specialist. Applications are accepted year-round. 

Position: Webmaster & IT $16/hr to $26/hr

The Aptagen Laboratory is located in Jacobus, PA, a suburb of York, beautifully surrounded by hiking and horseback riding trails near Lake Williams and Lake Redman. We are conveniently situated off of Interstate 83. 

The Business Webmaster & IT position will maintain and implement new features for our legacy WordPress site. This position will coordinate between Marketing, Executive Assistant, and the President & CEO. The candidate is able to meet deadlines and effectively prioritize tasks and assignments, primarily in the area of website development. Background in biology/molecular biology is preferred, but not necessary. The culture of the lab is an academic atmosphere mixed with the fast pace and energy of a start-up, where students receive a ‘graduate school’ experience.

Responsibilities: • Regular communication with leadership. • Website development and design in PHP, JavaScript, SQL, and a variety of other languages. • Light SQL database management. • Manage the company’s SEO. • Investigate and follow up with identified website issues. • Additional responsibilities as required – ability to be a team player and assist where needed.

Qualifications/Skills: • Entrepreneurial spirit, takes initiative, creative, and thinks 'outside the box’ • Demonstrable knowledge in WordPress, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and SQL. • High-level proficiency in Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. • Familiarity with e-commerce tools. • Must display a keen attention to detail. • Strong oral and written communication skills. • Science background (preferred, but not necessary). Aptagen’s training program has given former trainees an edge and head-start over their peers without research experience, better preparing them for graduate school and successful careers in science and business.  Trainees learn a variety of techniques, how to troubleshoot experiments, properly maintain a detailed laboratory notebook, exercise laboratory math skills, and develop critical thinking skills– all necessary for a successful career in science. 

We encourage manuscript writing for publications in scientific journals.

Trainees are under the close supervision of a supervisor or mentor, acting as an extension of their hands-on research projects. In return, trainees get valuable hands-on experience, as well as the following soft skills: public speaking and effective peer-to-peer communication, teamwork problem-solving, building effective networks, adaptability, and overall leadership skills.
