Software Engineer Intern, Ground Infrastructure

What you'll do

The Ground Infrastructure team is responsible for the infrastructure that provides transport network, data (processing) centers and the networks within, access underlay infrastructure, and general shared services which are hosted in the data centers required to connect a subscriber to the internet.


The day-to-day

As an intern on our team, you will work on a project to rotate security ACLs for HashiCorp Consul. You will be embedded in a mature DevOps team, take part in team meetings, and have the opportunity to learn from highly skilled engineers. 

Internship Program Details: 

You will work onsite at a Viasat office location for the duration of your 12-13 week internship

Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams

Housing and relocation assistance are available to interns pending eligibility 

To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable


What you'll need

Education Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related field
  • To be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2025 and June 2026 

Internship Dates: 

You must be available for the full duration of the 12-13 week internship program. Note limited exceptions may be granted. Viasat offers two options based on semester and quarter academic calendars:  

Cohort 1: May 20th, 2025 – August 15th, 2025

Cohort 2: June 17th, 2025 – September 12th, 2025 

Additional Requirements:

  • Python programming
  • Ansible, Terraform or other automation frameworks
  • Git
  • Infrastructure as code
  • AWS or other cloud environments
  • Ability to work with HTTP APIs
  • Ability to commit to a 12-13 week internship
  • US Citizenship required

Salary range

$20.91 - $56.97 / hourly. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $25.96 - $67.07/ hourly
