Maritime Logistics Internship

Overview: 

Gain an overall understanding of the Port’s maritime operations, including business strategy, project management procedures, the various stakeholders involved, and the Port’s role in a global supply chain. The intern will develop a strong understanding of international markets and logistics, both domestic and global, while honing their data analysis and reporting skills. They will gain hands-on experience with real-world challenges in supply chain optimization and digital logistics platforms, as well as exposure to collaborative efforts between public and private sector entities in transportation. 

 

The ideal candidate should be familiar with general business concepts and be able to perform complex research, analyze, communicate, and evaluate critical concepts, and be computer savvy. Some knowledge of maritime operations is desirable, although not required. 

 

Anticipated Projects: 

Marketing Data Analysis: The intern will be responsible for gathering, organizing, and analyzing marketing data to identify top customers, leading commodities, and key market trends. This will involve pulling data from various sources and using advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP, to create insightful reports. 

Oakland Portal Support: The intern will assist with tasks related to the Oakland Portal, the Port of Oakland’s central digital hub for maritime stakeholders. This may include attending and contributing to meetings with the Department of Transportation on the Freight Logistics Optimization Works (FLOW) program, which focuses on enhancing communication among U.S. transportation stakeholders.

Residence: Please note you must reside in the San Francisco Bay Area during the internship period. SF/Bay Area includes nine counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma.  

 

Education: Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be currently enrolled in and attending college at the time of applying for the program.  Those who have graduated from college within six months prior to the start of the program are also eligible to apply.
