Semiconductor Research Experience for Undergraduates
Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU): Early Engagement in Semiconductor Materials and Technologies.
This opportunity is open to undergraduate students majoring in any science or engineering field, who have completed their first or second year of study.
Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.
No prior experience with semiconductor research is necessary!
Semiconductors are used in cell phones and computers, lighting and displays, wearable biometric devices, space exploration technologies, electric vehicles, and power applications, to name a few. Nationally, jobs in semiconductor materials and technologies are growing rapidly, and the state of Michigan ranks in the top ten in for the size of its semiconductor workforce. These jobs require scientists and engineers from all backgrounds. This summer, Michigan State University is hosting a new NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates site: Early Engagement in Semiconductor Materials and Technologies. Students selected for the program will be matched with a faculty mentor at MSU, and will be trained in research skills that are useful in the semiconductor industry. The program also includes professional development training (e.g., how to write a resume, pros and cons of pursuing a graduate degree, etc) and tours of local labs and companies.
This is a 10-week, full-time research position at MSU, and includes free on-campus housing and a $6,000 stipend. Up to 10 students will be selected for this year's program. While this opportunity is a full-time, in-person job, we are willing to work with individuals to accommodate some scheduling conflicts.
Our program website (https://semitechreu.com/) provides more information on the REU and potential projects. Applications will be accepted until Feb 15, 2025, through the NSF ETAP site: https://etap.nsf.gov/award/7510/opportunity/10149.
