The Tax Product Development Specialists and interns (PDS) play a critical role at TaxHawk. Due to the uniqueness of the position, there’s no one degree from which we exclusively hire. Students from several backgrounds have had success, and while the job falls somewhere at the crossroads between Accounting, Finance, and IS, we also have solid contributors from varied majors such as Statistics, Math, and Economics, among others.
Regardless of educational background, the position is most satisfying for those that are detail-oriented, self-starting problem solvers. There are always new challenges to tackle and because of tax season's cyclical nature, the job tends to stay fresh as we alternate between many diverse responsibilities:
Responsibilities
- Gaining understanding of federal and state tax law
- Designing screens and calculations that will produce completely accurate tax returns for our customers
- Maintaining/creating MS Office outlines which represent in 'pseudocode' all screens, calculations, forms, and e-file elements needed to correctly generate customer’s tax returns (Note: this is not a programming position, so while exposure to computer science or basic logic is helpful, it’s not required.)
- Identifying annual changes in tax forms and instructions, and outlining those changes for the developers to implement in the code
- Reviewing the outline work produced by other PDS for accuracy and collaborating with them to produce the best possible user experience
- Working with the state revenue departments before each tax year to get TaxHawk approved for filing
- Ensuring all aspects of the process are working correctly before the launch of tax filing season, including: in-app user experience, printed tax returns, e-filing, etc.
- Improving our product by looking for and outlining enhancements which will advance usability and/or add support for more niche tax situations/forms
- Taking a role in developing new product features and enhancing existing ones
- Preventing fraud by recognizing patterns among suspicious returns flagged for review
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in related field
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and other office tools.
- (Bonus) logic/programming exposure / interest
Details
- Competitive Pay
- Full-Time
- Generous Benefits, Health Insurance, and PTO
- 4% 401K Match and 401K Profit Sharing Contributions
- Work-life balance is supported and encouraged
