Cybersecurity Intern
Are you a cybersecurity student looking for hands-on experience in protecting enterprise systems and data? Kodiak Building Partners is seeking a Cybersecurity Intern to join our team for the summer. In this role, you will gain exposure to network security, threat analysis, risk assessment, and security best practices while working alongside IT and security professionals to help safeguard our organization from cyber threats.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in monitoring and analyzing network traffic for potential security threats and vulnerabilities.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of security controls, including firewalls, endpoint protection, and access management.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and security audits to identify risks in IT systems.
- Research and document emerging cybersecurity threats and best practices.
- Assist in security awareness training by developing educational materials for employees.
- Support incident response efforts, helping to investigate and remediate security incidents.
- Contribute to policy and procedure development, ensuring compliance with cybersecurity frameworks.
- Assist with identity and access management (IAM) by reviewing user access permissions.
- Work on a capstone project, analyzing a cybersecurity challenge, developing a security improvement plan, and presenting recommendations to Kodiak leadership.
- Participate in additional cybersecurity and IT security projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Rising junior or senior currently pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field at a college or university.
- Basic knowledge of network security principles, firewalls, encryption, and authentication protocols.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity tools such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, and vulnerability scanners is a plus.
- Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls) is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); experience with Python, PowerShell, or Linux command line is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn.
