Actuarial Intern
June - August 2020 • Hartford, CT
What I liked
I loved the accommodations that were made to adapt to the virtual environment and the support that the entire company offered to their interns. Not to mention that employees at all levels made themselves available to answer all questions that I had.
What I wish was different
The only thing that I would change is maybe being assigned a “virtual buddy” in the internship who you can talk to. This person would be another intern so that they could relate to you and your experience.
Advice
Be open to whatever comes your way! Just because you’re an “intern” doesn’t mean you’ll be doing anything easy. The Hartford has all of their interns work on real projects and do things that the company really uses.

Advice
Work as hard as you can, ask a lot of questions, and get to know the full time employees there. Everyone is super helpful and willing to offer advice if you need it. You'll get as much out of the internship as you put into it.

Bond Underwriting Intern
May - August 2019 • Frisco, TX
What I liked
When I reflect on my time at The Hartford this past summer, the thing that stands out to me the most was the people I worked with. Each person in the office was genuine and happy to have me there. This allowed me to not only be confident, but it gave me an opportunity to work in an atmosphere where it was easy to thrive.
What I wish was different
There really is not much I would change here, but if there was one thing I wish I had the opportunity to do more of it would be the sales aspect of the role. I was able to meet a few agents as well as account representatives throughout the summer, but it would have been cool to meet even more and expand my network in this role and throughout the Surety industry.
Advice
The one piece of advice I would give would be that it is okay to go out of your comfort zone. One of my favorite phrases is "be comfortable with being uncomfortable", and that is exactly what helped me in this role.

Actuarial Intern
May - August 2019 • Hartford, CT
What I liked
I liked how my summer project was creating a tool that filled a real need at the company and will be used after my summer finished.
What I wish was different
I wish I had understood the big picture of my project better at the beginning of the summer instead of piecing it together as I learned more.
Advice
Volunteer for projects and work even if you don't know how to do it. That's how you learn.

Financial Analyst Intern
May - August 2017 • Hartford, CT
What I liked
I liked the culture of the company. You were able to reach out to many people in the company to learn about their careers. One of the highlights was the Capstone Presentation at the end of the internship. Through your time there you are given a team of interns to work with and then present it to an audience anywhere between 40-80 people consisting of VP's SVP's etc. It is very nerve recking but definitely is a great experience!
What I wish was different
I wish there was more value added work involved. I had one project of having to predict the incoming expectations of electric vehicles which was great work and a lot of fun. But it only lasted about 3 weeks. The rest of the time I was filled with a lot of monotonous work.
Advice
Meet as many people as possible here. The culture allows it so definitely take advantage of it!
