United Launch Alliance (ULA)

Subcontract Management and Procurement Intern

May - July 2021 • Cape Canaveral, FL

What I liked

Very hands-on experience; many opportunities to interact with other interns and develop understanding and connections around our individual projects.

What I wish was different

Advice

Be willing to explore other functions of an organization outside of your department. It not only provides you with an opportunity to understand your respective business/industry, but your mentors will have an opportunity to look at the same functions/departments from a different perspective.

Booster Propulsions Intern

May - July 2018 • Denver, CO

What I liked

I loved the community and challenge of the project I was working on. I also really liked knowing that I was contributing to real engineering and my work would fly on a rocket one day.

What I wish was different

I wish it had been longer because I had so much to do and so little time to actually complete it.

Advice

Go in with an open mind. There are a lot of interesting tasks that you can take on but you can choose. That is the point of the internship, to figure out what you actually want to do.

Propulsion Design Intern

June - August 2017 • Denver, CO

What I liked

Interns are given actual projects to design and develop hardware or software which will either fly on a rocket or will be used to build a rocket. Projects are challenging and interns are given autonomy to go and complete them with minimal oversight, but adequate support.

What I wish was different

Interns were split between multiple buildings, so it was difficult to get to know the 50+ other interns who were at headquarters as well

Advice

Participate in the intern rocket program! We built and launched a 53 foot rocket in our free time over the summer, funded by ULA, and that was a great learning experience that let me meet people and learn a lot outside of work

Information Technology Intern

May - August 2018 • Golden, CO

What I liked

The location was amazing as it was very close to family and near the highway. I loved the people and the relationships I made. A lot of my coworkers cared about my well being and looked after me

What I wish was different

I wish I would've explored the area more. I felt like majority of my summer was me working at a desk

Advice

I would recommend ULA to any intern or professional looking for job experience. I had an amazing time and am eager to return next summer!
