I loved the people I worked with, and the University Recruiting team held a ton of events for interns to help us in the future.
What I wish was different
I wish I had had more work to do! It felt like they forgot about me at times, and so I didn’t have much to do.
Advice
I highly recommend interning at Staples; however, for those in CS/tech, maybe look for other options.

Print and Marketing Associate
June 2019 • Monona, WI
What I liked
I have worked at Staples before, but moved this summer to Madison and started at this store. The print and marketing job is fast paced and fun. There is a lot to learn but I enjoy learning about it. I was lucky to be selected to help plan our Back to School Block Party and was able to do a lot of work connecting with local companies and planning the event.
What I wish was different
Nothing! I love working here.
Advice

Sales Associate
June 2018 • Rockville, MD
What I liked
I loved meeting so many people every day.
What I wish was different
I wish I didn’t have to deal with as many difficult customers.
Advice
Working retail isn’t easy, especially at a Staples during back to school season. You need a backbone to have discipline not to take criticisms from frustrated customers personally. Also, always use a level tone of voice—people are way less likely to be angry at someone who is being nice to them. So be friendly! Work is so much fun when you are.

Certified Tech
April - August 2018 • Terre Haute, IN
What I liked
Working in and with technology, having interpersonal interactions, advising customers and helping them.
What I wish was different
More training at the start of the job. Unfortunately I for the most part had to teach myself most of the processes to do the computer work.
Advice
Never take a person off first impression, some people may look ragged and be able to pay for a computer in cash, while others my look fancy and kind and end up being the most frustratingly rude people you have ever met.

Head Tech
May - September 2019 • Prince George, VA
What I liked
Finaly having the chance to do a job related to technology. I spent a good chunk of my time working on and repairing computers.
What I wish was different
How punctual closing hours were. I hated having to work closing shifts, because even though we'd be scheduled to leave at 10, I sometimes left nearly 2 hours later because of the incompetency of others.
Advice
Never, ever work the department floor. It is the most degrading and mind numbing experience possible. Couple that with the same awful music day in and day out for hours on end, it's more so torture than a simple job.
