Sports Marketing FP&A Intern

What I liked

There were a handful of things I liked during my time at Under Armour. The first of which was the welcoming and light-hearted culture the company offered. In addition, my project for the summer made an impact on the company and is being implemented as we speak. I was able to meet with various executives and other teammates within the company to get insights on what I could implement in my project to make it sustainable. Throughout the internship, we had weekly meet and greets with SVP's and other higher-ups in the company, as well as panels to hear the C-Suite employees talk about their journey and insights on life. Lastly, the Under Armour Rookie Program (Interns are called Rookies at Under Armour) puts on a sports league for all its intern to play in over the course of the summer, which was a highlight.

What I wish was different

I thought my summer internship was as close to flawless as it could have been, except for two things. One thing I wish did not happen was that I was removed from sitting next to my team about three weeks in (but also was nice because I got moved to Rookie Island, which was an area of about 10 interns). Although it was nice sitting near the other Rookies, I was not as productive and did not learn as much as I could have if I was sitting with my team. The second thing I wish had been different was putting all of the Rookies on the same side of the harbor in apartments. It was difficult for me to get to know a lot of the Rookies on the other side of the harbor since I did not have a car.

Advice

Stay Humble and Hungry. You want to stay humble in your work life because there is always room to improve and aspects within the company or skills to learn. It is also important to stay hungry to continue to better yourself from an intellectual perspective as well as asking for work once you have completed your given assignments.

Supply Chain Engineering Intern

What I liked

Under Armour's Rookie League program is phenomenal. They provide endless opportunities to learn, develop, and network with individuals in nearly any area business/design/engineering imaginable. The projects done in the internships is meaningful and impactful work for the company. From meeting with executives of the brand to working side-by-side with Teammates in Under Armour stores, this internship program has it all.

What I wish was different

There are none - just wishing it would have lasted longer.

Advice

Have an open mind and latch onto as many opportunities as you can.

What I liked

I loved that it was a rotational program and that everyone was really dedicated to helping me learn.

What I wish was different

I wish there was something tangible that we got at the end so we could have something to add to a portfolio (or even guidance on how we could create something that would look good on a résumé/personal website. Even without this, the program is phenomenal.

Take every opportunity to learn something new.

What I liked

I like that I was given the opportunity to work on a project that would be beneficial to the company. I was given access to real company data and other resources that I needed to provide a valuable deliverable. I also liked that I was encouraged to learn as much as I could and build my network while I had access to variety of professionals with different backgrounds.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have taken the time to shadow people who worked in departments across the company. I also wish I would have spent more time developing stronger relationships with the other interns.

Advice

I would encourage people to try to learn something from everyone you encounter. People have so much to offer based on their existing knowledge and previous experiences. During the conversation the information that is shared may not seem useful but you never know when something that appears to have no initial value could become useful.

I wish the shifts were longer.

Advice

It was really beneficial for me to know some Spanish to work this job. Tannersville is a popular tourist area where a lot of visitors speak Spanish, and I was able to easily communicate with a lot of customers.

I wish there was more of a set schedule so that it’d be easier for me to work and go to school.

It’s valuable to work in different industries and expand your experience. Even if I never use some of the stuff I learned, it’s always valuable to better yourself at serving people.

The atmosphere of working at Under Armour was fantastic. I loved using engineering skills in the athletic field.

I wish I could have been involved a little more in other projects outside the one single one I was assigned.

Advice

Under Armour has a lot of ties with BYU, so if you are interested in working in engineering and sports, it is a great option with good BYU connections.

It is what you make it. You can literally talk to anyone that you want to. It’s about how much effort you put into learning and reaching out to others.

What I liked

Great group of interns - the company's culture is a really young, and fun one, everything is fast paced.

What I wish was different

Internal disorganization - there's a real lack of standardization across groups and procedures, which was incredibly frustrating. Painful emphasis on 'wins' - if you didn't label everything as 'win', regardless of if it were just a standard task, management would be visibly annoyed and displeased.

Advice

Overall an amazing time, just be sure that you have a set project.

What I liked

My interactions with customers and co workers were some of the best I’ve ever had! I had a job relating to my favorite interests-shoes and sportswear- and earned money talking and selling things I like!

What I wish was different

I wish I was there longer before I had to come back for school. I only had 9 days under my belt before I had to return back to college for my sophomore year, but I enjoyed every moment!
